About Lashai Jay

Tatyana Johnson, also known as Lashai Jay, was born in Harvey, Illinois on May 5th, 1998. She was raised on the south side of Chicago and everyone in her family knew one day she would be a star. She went to elementary school at Edward Coles on 87th and Yates, where she participated in her first performance, in 3rd grade! She sang in the classic play, “THE WIZ”! Lashai was super excited about it, and with the help of her mother, she practiced every day until her performance. And, of course, she killed it and made a name for herself there after.

Through middle school at Dirksen right outside of Chicago in Calumet city, she sang often and was even apart of her family choir. This is where she noticed her true talents started to form! Lashai was a lead singer for most talent groups and showed she was always excited to be on stage. After she graduated from Thornridge high school, she immediately joined the United States Navy where she served our country for the past almost 7 years. During this time, she traveled all around the world, was stationed in Japan for four years and even toured places like Korea, the Philippines, Guam, and more.

While in the service, Lashai’s shipmates started to realize she had an amazing voice and recommended she perform in the ships upcoming talent show. Not thinking where it would lead, she took her friend’s advice and won first place! After many amazing performances, the captain of her ship asked her personally to sing the National Anthem for their Navy ceremony, where she received a standing ovation!

No matter where she is or what she does, she makes sure to sing. After her career in the military, Lashai came back home to Chicago in October 2022, where she began working diligently on what she calls “feel good music“. She dropped her 1st studio album called “Toxic Love”, February 2023… just 4 months later. This project included a major feature with Chicago’s own Queen Key, “Put it Down”, plus some fan favorites like “Just the Two of Us” and “Candy Rain”.

She is currently in the lab working on her next album, performing in live shows and festivals, giving back to the community and working with industry professionals including videographers, booking agents and marketing experts to continue to elevate in the R&B industry. Lashai recently obtained and is recording a single featuring, Bryson Tiller, titled “Pull Up” & she just directed & starred in the visuals for “Just the Two of Us”!! Making her way to being a household name, she was just interviewed live on Soul 106.3 FM (Chicago), Song “Put it Down” has been featured there and on one of Chicago’s #1 Hip-Hop stations, Power 92.3 FM. She also has regular rotation on several licensed B.D.S radio stations including F.M.P radio, MyRadio Chicago & more.
